In case you haven’t heard: the Dutch Leather Shoe Museum is currently hosting an exhibition of the remarkable shoes of Kobi Levi. Thirty-five pairs of toucans, flamingos, elephants, shopping trolleys and banana skins, plus Madonnas, Ursulas, Malafides, cheerleaders, blow-up dolls and x-rated pumps. It’s like visiting a zoo and a peep show in one!

In the last week of May a Kobi Levi Footwear Art commercial was broadcasted on Dutch National Television. The commercial is promoting Kobi Levi's exhibition in the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum, which has been open since 2 June.

Waalwijk - The Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum proudly presents its new exhibition: Kobi Levi Footwear Art. No fewer than 35 pairs of amazing footwear creations by this talented Israeli designer will be on show.
We are even more proud of the fact that Kobi will be honouring us with a visit to the on 17 June! Moreover, he has also made time to give a workshop on shoe design! In the workshop, Kobi will give participants a shoe design challenge.

The manufacture of shoes may well have virtually disappeared abroad completely, but theNetherlands is still an important country for footwear. A considerable number of successful trading firms and chain stores take their own designs to market. In order to fulfil the demand for design talent, the 'Industrial Footwear Design' (IFD) course was developed in 2009.
Versitile and creative
The aim of IFD is to be a course that is generally accessible and that fits in well with the business world. What is unique about the course is the link to the footwear industry. IFD is primarily geared towards candidates with a creative background, with a higher vocational level of education being required. Once you have completed the course, your position as a junior footwear designer will be a surefooted one, providing you with a versatile and creative grounding for a career in the footwear industry.

After the outstanding conceptual design shoes by Japanese designer Kei Kagami, the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum brings even more top design into the limelight this summer! This time by quirky Israeli designer Kobi Levi.
Levi was still in secondary school in Tel Aviv when he created his first shoe designs from cardboard. To study at the Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design in Jerusalem seemed an obvious next step. Levi graduated in 2001, before working as a freelance shoe designer. In the years that followed, he mastered the intricacies of the art of shoe making to the minutest detail.

The London-based fashion designer Kei Kagami is a master of conceptual design. His fashion designs are more likely to be described as installations and his shoe collections (most of them highly wearable) show his great interest in architecture.
Starting from the 3rd of February 2013 the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum in Waalwijk, in collaboration with Steinbeisser Art & Design, highlights Kagami’s startling work in the exhibition "Kei Kagami – A Retrospective".
